Senne Lammens has been reflecting on what he believes was his best match since arriving at Manchester United five months ago, and has urged his teammates to maintain higher standards at Old Trafford for the remainder of the season and beyond.
There are a few names in the conversation for Manchester United’s best signing in 2025. Bryan Mbeumo, who leads the team in scoring, and Matheus Cunha, who looks every bit ready to shine at one of the world’s biggest clubs, are two obvious choices.
But Senne Lammens shouldn’t be left out of that discussion. The 23-year-old has been a noticeable upgrade over Andre Onana and Altay Bayindir as United’s starting goalkeeper.
The Belgian made his way to Old Trafford on transfer deadline day last summer, with United paying around £18.2 million to bring him over from Royal Antwerp.
Lammens picked up his first senior cap for Belgium in November 2025 during a comfortable 7-0 win over Liechtenstein.
If Lammens keeps this level of performance going at club level, there is a chance that he could one day challenge Thibaut Courtois for the number-one job with Belgium.
What Senne Lammens said about Manchester derby win
Lammens has quickly settled into life at United. His composure in goal hasn’t gone unnoticed, with some already drawing parallels to Edwin van der Sar. The Dutchman remains a fan favourite from his time under Sir Alex Ferguson between 2005 and 2011.
Lammens is still finding his feet in the Premier League but has already singled out the 2-0 win over Man City as the most memorable atmosphere he’s experienced so far.
That match was one of three clean sheets he’s kept since arriving, following strong performances against Sunderland and Newcastle. Speaking to club media, Lammens reflected on the City game, as quoted by ManUtd.com.
“Yeah [the atmosphere was the best],” he said. “I think it has to be one of the best, if not the best games I’ve been part of, just in every facet.
“Like defending, attacking, the amount of chances we created, not giving away any chances.
Lammens describes the hostile atmosphere at Elland Road
Another notable recent fixture was the 1-1 draw against Leeds at Elland Road. While it’s always a heated rivalry, this time, much of the attention shifted to Ruben Amorim’s sacking after the final whistle.
Lammens took away some valuable lessons from that trip, not just because of the rivalry but also due to the intensity of the occasion.
He reflected on his experience: “It was quite hostile [at Leeds], to be honest,” he said. “So it was also a special game, just too bad we couldn’t come away with the three points.
“It was a really nice game to play in and good experience for me, as well, to get into those games.
“I think if you can get your performance in and just stay the same way as you did, like playing at home, I think it’s a good lesson to learn as a young goalkeeper. And if you know you can do it, then you can do it almost everywhere.
“So yeah, it’s nice to know as well.”
