The forward is contracted to the Red Devils until 2028.
Marcus Rashford has been enjoying himself on loan at Barcelona this season but his future past the end of the current campaign is yet to be decided.
Hansi Flick has regularly praised the England international, while the Manchester United loanee has said publicly he wants to stay at the Camp Nou past the end of his current deal.
However, a new report from The Telegraph claims that Michael Carrick will want Rashford back at Old Trafford if he is given the manager’s job on a permanent basis.
Carrick has replaced Ruben Amorim at the helm until the end of the season and has started off in well, overseeing wins over Manchester City and Arsenal in his first two games in charge.
The report states that “Carrick would like his former team-mate back” if he takes over but adds “it is hard to see that happening” particularly after United handed his No. 10 shirt to Matheus Cunha.
Rashford is doing all he can to try and convince Barcelona that he deserves to stay, and his record of nine goals and nine assists so far this season is a good return.
However, it’s still not clear if Barcelona will activate the £26m buy clause in his contract at the end of the season or look elsewhere to strengthen in the summer transfer window.
