Liam Rosenior has confirmed midfielder Romeo Lavia is back in training but isn’t ready to return to a match day squad yet.
Lavia has been plagued by injury issues since joining from Southampton in the summer of 2023, and has yet to complete a 90 minutes for the Blues.
The Belgian has made just 30 appearances in two and a half years, and despite his quality he simply hasn’t been available enough.
Liam Rosenior confirms Romeo Lavia is back in training
Lavia hasn’t featured for Chelsea since the 2-2 draw with Qarabag in the Champions League at the start of November.
The 22-year-old was forced off early on, and it was initially reported Lavia was expected to miss at least a month, but over two months have passed and he’s still not back.
Rosenior has previously confirmed Lavia was back out on the pitch doing his rehab, but refused to put a time frame on his return.
Lavia has returned to Chelsea training.
Whether Lavia features again this season remains to be seen, but Rosenior has confirmed he’s returned to training.
“[We must be] more patient. I can’t give timeframes, especially in Romeo’s situation,” he said as quoted by The Standard.
“He’s looking really, really good but we need to make sure every single thing is marked off in terms of his rehab.
“I don’t like speaking about timings for players in press conferences because it’s not fair on them.
“If they don’t make that day, it looks bad on them when I know how hard Romeo is working. I can’t wait for him to be back and be a part of the group.”
Liam Rosenior wants midfielder back for good when he returns
Rosenior added Lavia wants to be playing and helping the team, but admitted it’s about doing what’s right in the long term.

“He wants to be playing. He wants to be on the pitch. He wants to help the team,” he added.
“But it’s about doing what’s right for their long-term health and their long-term career. Romeo is still a very young player. He’s an incredible talent. But I want to make sure when he’s back, he’s back for good.”
