Unfortunately for Manchester City and Jérémy Doku, the Belgian international sustained a calf injury in the first half of City’s 2-0 win over Galatasaray on Wednesday evening. Doku was at his dazzling best, setting up goals for Erling Haaland and Rayan Cherki before injury struck. Pep Guardiola revealed after City’s match that Doku was likely ruled out of Manchester City’s upcoming Premier League fixture against Tottenham. City assistant Pep Lijnders has provided an update on Doku’s injury, and it seems that the dazzling winger will be ruled out for a couple of weeks.
Pep Lijnders has revealed a timeline of how long Jeremy Doku will be sidelined for.
Stepping in for Pep Guardiola in the pre-game press conference ahead of Manchester City’s Premier League fixture against Tottenham, Pep Lijnders was asked about how long Jeremy Doku will be out of action for. Speaking on Doku’s injury, Pep Lijnders said: “I have to say first of all to Jeremy, I have to make a big compliment how he played. Because a top team is defined by individual quality of our front players and how he was between the lines to attack and first assist to Erling was unbelievable.”
“Sorry he went out and its similar to last injury. Only that time it was lateral, this one is on the centre. it was 18 days. I think this time it will be a little bit shorter as he’s a robust player.”
Manchester City do have cover for Jeremy Doku but they will miss him.
Pep Guardiola does have cover for Jérémy Doku in his squad. The expectation is that Antoine Semenyo will take Doku’s spot in the Manchester City starting eleven for their match against Tottenham on Sunday. Omar Marmoush is another option for Pep Guardiola to consider with Jeremy Doku sidelined for a few weeks.
It is no doubt about blow for Manchester City to lose Jeremy Doku for several weeks. Doku has grown and matured as a player this season. He has gone from being a player who would flash in and out of games to being a player who consistently gets at Manchester City’s opponents, and his pace, creativity, and dribbling ability are a massive part of City’s game. Doku will be missed by City, although they do have cover for the Belgian international.
It appears that Jeremy Doku will be sidelined for between two to three weeks. Manchester City will be hoping Doku can comeback and pick up here he left off against Galatasaray when he returns from injury.
