Manchester United have reportedly decided to drop Toby Collyer from their plans for next season, thus making him available for loan.
The 21-year-old is a Brighton youth product who signed for the Red Devils in the summer of 2022. He swiftly climbed the ranks after starting with the U18 side, going through the U21 team before earning a promotion to Erik ten Hag’s senior squad last summer.
The Englishman swiftly made his senior debut against Manchester City in the Community Shield. The Worthing native then found more prominence with Ruben Amorim in charge, especially amidst an injury crisis between January and March.
Man United planning to loan out Toby Collyer
At one point, Collyer usurped Casemiro in the pecking order, but the latter rebounded in the final stages of the season.
But according to Samuel Luckhurst, United have now decided to send the young midfielder packing, albeit on a temporary basis.

The Manchester Evening News journalist reveals that MUFC will be looking to loan out Collyer for the 2025/26 season. On the one hand, the young player would gain valuable experience. On the other hand, he would make room for the possible arrival of another midfielder.
At the moment, Man Utd have five midfielders vying for the two CM roles. While Bruno Fernandes spent the majority of his career thus far as an attacking midfielder, he’s now expected to occupy a deeper role following the arrivals of Matheus Cunha and Bryan Mbeumo.

In addition to the skipper, Casemiro, Kobbie Mainoo and Manuel Ugarte are seemingly set to stay, which leaves Collyer as an unnecessary fifth choice, especially in the absence of European football. Therefore, the youngster’s temporary departure could be the best solution for all parties.
While Luckhurst hasn’t mentioned any candidates for the role, Man United have been linked with several midfielders since the start of the summer, including Atalanta’s Ederson, Amorim’s old Sporting pupil Morten Hjulmand, and Juventus rebel Douglas Luiz.
However, it should be noted that these players require sizable transfer fees, while Collyer’s loan move won’t help the club raise any funds.
