Enquirer names Cincinnati high school athletes of the week for Jan. 30

Cincinnati.com readers selected the Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine's Athletes of the Week from high school sports action through Jan. 25.

In a vote that ended Jan. 30, Cincinnati.com readers selected the 2025-2026 Cincinnati Enquirer/Beacon Orthopaedics & Sports Medicine Athletes of the Week from high school sports action through Jan. 25.

Ohio big-school boys basketball team:Lakota West – Lakota West stayed perfect at 10-0 in the GMC with strong defense against Hamilton and Mason.

Ohio small-school boys basketball team:Williamsburg – Williamsburg is still unbeaten at 16-0 following three wins against Mariemont, Blanchester and St. Bernard-Elmwood Place.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana boys basketball team:Walton-Verona – The Bearcats are headed to the Kentucky All “A” Final Four after wins against Somerset and Martin County.

Ohio big-school girls basketball team:Princeton – Princeton took down Sycamore and Fairfield last week to build a three-game streak.

Ohio small-school girls basketball team:Monroe – Monroe had a three-win week with victories over Wyoming, Harrison and Talawanda.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana girls basketball team:Bishop Brossart – Bishop Brossart is on a seven-game winning streak and will compete in the Kentucky All “A” final four after wins against Green County and Danville Christian.

Boys winter team: Milford swimming – Milford repeated as the Eastern Cincinnati Conference champions, scoring 329 points at the championship meet.

Girls winter team:Turpin swimming – Turpin reclaimed the Eastern Cincinnati Conference championship, scoring 354.5 points at the conference meet. Turpin has won the ECC in three of the last four seasons and seven of the last nine.

Ohio big-school boys basketball:Toby Strausbaugh, Anderson – He had 15 points, 13 rebounds, two assists and three steals in a 56-40 win over Lebanon.

Ohio small-school boys basketball: Eli Stroud, Badin – He had 22 points on 9-of-10 shooting, seven rebounds, five assists and four steals in a 69-31 win over league foe McNicholas that was the Rams’ ninth straight win.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana boys basketball:Tyson Metzger, Dixie Heights – The senior led the Colonels with 19 points, including five 3-pointers, which included a game-tying triple at the buzzer to send the game to overtime, in a 61-54 OT win over Beechwood.

Ohio big-school girls basketball:Bailey Bacher, Lakota East – The junior had 10 points, nine rebounds, five assists and five steals in a win over Colerain.

Ohio small-school girls basketball:Hailey Farmer, Miami Valley Christian Academy – Her buzzer-beating jump shot helped the Lions beat Norwood, their first win over the Indians since at least 2012.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana girls basketball:Rachel Shewmaker, Bishop Brossart – The senior has 9 points, four assists and two rebounds in a win over Green County, then posted six assists, five rebounds and two steals in a win over Danville Christian to help the Lady ‘Stangs reach the All “A” state semifinals.

Boys big-school bowling:Alex DeFife, McNicholas – He averaged 205 in a pair of league wins for the Rockets.

Boys small-school bowling:Brody Sons, Bethel-Tate – He had games of 190 and 189 in a win over Williamsburg, and a personal high 210 and 187 in a win over Felicity-Franklin.

Girls big-school bowling:Eryn Cramlet, Batavia – She had games of 179 and 158 in a 31-pin win over Western Brown.

Girls small-school bowling:Lyndsey Perkins, Bethel-Tate – She had games of 158 and 135 in a 19-pin win over Felicity-Franklin.

Northern Kentucky boys archer: Brayden Henry, Boone County – He shot a 278 to finish second in the boys division at the Notre Dame Academy Christine Marie Bartel Memorial.

Northern Kentuckygirls archer: Eliza Rechel, Conner – She shot a 279 to win the girls division at the Notre Dame Academy Christine Marie Bartel Memorial.

Ice hockey player: Masen Tyler, Mason – The senior scored one goal and had two assists and three blocked shots in a pair of wins over Elder.

Ohio boys swimming/diving:Landon Crum, Milford – He won the 50-yard freestyle in 21.94 seconds and took third place in the 100-yard backstroke in 53.21 seconds at the Eastern Cincinnati Conference championships.

Ohio girls swimming/diving:Molly McCracken, Walnut Hills – She improved two individual times at the Eastern Cincinnati Conference championships, winning the 100-yard backstroke in 59.18 seconds and taking third place in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:17.8.

Ohio boys wrestling:Carson Wissinger, Clinton-Massie – The freshman was the 106-pound champ at the Benjamin Logan Grant Invite, scoring two pins and a 20-2 tech fall in the finals.

Northern Kentucky/Indiana boys wrestling:Dontae Graves, Holmes – At the Holmes Quad, he went 3-0, including a pin and a tech fall.

The Enquirer will no longer mail certificates to schools after getting feedback that families weren't receiving them. Alex Harrison will make digital copies of all certificates available to families by 8 a.m. the Monday after the Friday win. Families will access the PDFs through this public Dropbox link.
