The crisis at Morecambe FC continues to grow with the club now suspended from the National League until mid-August.

According to journalist Pete O'Rourke, players have been told to go home following the news as the situation at the club worsens.

The Shrimps' suspension means that opening games against Boston United, Brackley Town, and Scunthorpe United are all likely to be called off. The situation mirrors Bury FC's eventual expulsion from the EFL back in 2019.

The National League had previously met with owner Jason Whittingham to seek assurances that the club would be able to compete in the 2025/26 season. Terms had been outlined to the owner ahead of a deadline of 12pm earlier today.

That deadline has now passed which sees the club suspended and should the situation in Lancashire not improve then the club will likely be kicked out of the competition putting its future into major doubt.

To make matters worse for the Shrimps, previous potential buyers Panjab Warriors, a sports investment firm, appear to have stepped back from plans to purchase the beleaguered club.
