PSD Nordic skier Brooke Davis is the Blue FCU Girls Athlete of the Week after leading the Stars with a top-10 finish against a strong statewide field.
This week's Blue Federal Credit Union Girls Athlete of the Week award is hitting some fresh powder on the (gentler) ski slopes.
Poudre School District Nordic skier Brooke Davis took top honors in the Fort Collins area for the week of Jan. 19-24 with a strong finish against some of the state's best.
Davis led the Stars to a top-5 team finish at the Steamboat Classic, taking seventh place vs. a crowded statewide field in the 4.5-kilometer classic race.
The senior sped into the top 10 with a time of under 20 minutes and was one of two top-10 PSD placers, joined by teammate Brooklyn Forster.
Despite a challenging snow season — especially with PSD being the state's only team based on the Front Range — Davis has continued to excel this season.
She's been the top PSD girls skier in all four Stars races this season and is already a state qualifier in the classic race.
Davis is also tracking to make a CHSAA Nordic skiing all-state team, sitting 12th in the standings through Jan. 29.
The state championships aren't far away either, coming Feb. 20-21 at Maloit Park in Minturn just south of Vail.
Davis is the second PSD skier to earn Athlete of the Week honors this winter, joining boys teammate Leo Tornatzky. She is also the seventh Stars player to win Blue FCU's Athlete of the Week award, joining PSD flag football's Brooke Pravlik, Jordyn Peterson and Marli Brenner, PSD field hockey's Allison Bruning and PSD gymnast Kate Gundelfinger.
Prairie Dog fans made their voices heard at the polls, pushing Davis atop a two-way battle with 53.3% of the vote.
That ultimately lifted the Stars senior ahead of these four other standout girls Athlete of the Week nominees:
- Taylor Alcaraz, Fort Collins basketball (runner-up with 44.5%)
- Maggie Foster, Poudre basketball
- Ella Gaca Thiele, Fossil Ridge swimming
- Addison Rocha, PSD wrestling
The Blue Federal Credit Union Athlete of the Week series features five nominees on Mondays, with voting at Coloradoan.com until 11:59 a.m. every Thursday.
