Ryan Garcia has been out of the ring since his disappointing outing on May 2 at the historic Times Square event, a night that many expected to further his star power. Instead, it ended with a tough loss that derailed his momentum. Following the bout, Garcia underwent surgery on his right hand, forcing him into recovery mode. Now, whispers of a comeback are growing louder—and a rematch could be the centerpiece of his return.

Reported by Manouk Akopyan of The Ring, Garcia has his sights set on unfinished business. ‘The fight I am most interested in is me getting my rematch against Rolando Romero,’ Garcia told The Ring.

According to the report, negotiations between Garcia’s and Romero’s camps have already begun and are in advanced stages for a possible December clash.

Garcia isn’t shy about what he plans to do if the rematch materializes. ‘The rematch is going to come down to who sets the pace and makes the move,’ he said. ‘He never attacked me, and it’s always going to be a weird fight because we both hit hard. I have a plan for him the next time, and I'll run him over with it and sink him in deep waters. Rolly doesn’t take pressure and punches well. He doesn’t like fighting inside. You saw what happened to him against Isaac Cruz. A healthy version of me knocks out Rolly. It’s simple.’

Many fans and media had Garcia penciled in for a smooth win over Romero, setting up a blockbuster rematch with Devin Haney. Instead, Romero flipped the script, creating one of the year’s biggest upsets. If this rematch happens, Garcia’s path to redemption won’t be easy—but it might just be the fight that defines his career.
