Corning boys hoops win STAC West with record-setting performance, O-M’s Antes delivers huge double-double

CORNING, N.Y. (WETM) – Three of the area’s top scorers delivered memorable nights on the basketball court.

Corning boys basketball highlighted a busy night in the Twin Tiers, on Wednesday. Hawks standout sophomore Nolyn Proudfoot set a new single-game scoring record for the program, with a 42 point, 17 rebound double-double. The outstanding performance lifted Corning to a 98-72 victory over Ithaca, the STAC West crown, and a (13-0) record. Kyler Stevenson added to the big night for the black and gold, tacking 30 points onto Proudfoot’s record setting night.

The 27th-ranked Hawks (Class AAA) will look to stay perfect on Friday, when they host Oneonta at 7:15 p.m.

On the girls side, Leah Antes lifted Odessa-Montour to a 42-30 win over Spencer-Van Etten. Antes recorded a 30 point, 14 rebound double-double, in what was the Grizzlies’ first home game since January 9th. With the impressive scoring night, the standout sophomore sits just 10 points shy of 1,000 in her career.

Antes will have a chance to hit the milestone this Friday, when the Grizzlies battle Tioga on the road. Tip-off is set for 5:30 p.m.
