Baseball, movies and hotdogs: 5 questions with Guardians outfielder Nolan Jones

Guardians outfielder Nolan Jones gives his quick-hit takes on baseball food, movies and history.

Nolan Jones had a quick turnaround and a long-awaited return flight thrown his way just before Opening Day.

Jones, who went through spring training camp preparing for another year in the Colorado Rockies outfield, was traded to the Guardians shortly before the 2025 season began. The deal came together quickly and somewhat surprisingly for Cleveland, which sent Tyler Freeman to the Rockies.

Jones' circumstances were flipped. Instead of the rebuilding Rockies, he was a potentially key part of the lineup for a Guardians team hoping to repeat as American League Central champs.

A former Cleveland first-round pick, Jones is back with his original club and fighting for as many at-bats as possible.

Cleveland Guardians left fielder Nolan Jones (22) celebrates after scoring during the eighth inning against the Athletics at Progressive Field July 20 in Cleveland.

We asked Jones five questions on pregame meals, baseball history, movies and more.

What is your go-to postgame or pregame meal on game days?

Nothing crazy. I would say pregame, I just do a smoothie with a bunch of fruit. It's protein.

If you could face any pitcher in baseball history, who would it be?

Probably Nolan Ryan, since I'm named for him.

What's your favorite baseball movie?

Probably "The Sandlot." Growing up, watching it a bunch, it's just a classic.

What's your go-to hot dog order?

Not really a hot dog guy, honestly. I would say if I'm eating a hot dog, it's just mustard, but I don't really. I'm not a hot dog guy. (First baseman Kyle Manzardo, sitting at a nearby locker, jokingly refuted that last claim after the interview concluded, saying he's seen Jones eat plenty of hot dogs.)

It's Game 7 of the World Series, and you need a hit to win it; who would you want at the plate if you can have any hitter in baseball history?

I'd probably just go, like, prime Mike Trout.
