GLENDALE – As the 2026 offseason creeps closer and closer, so does quarterback Kyler Murray’s final day as an Arizona Cardinals. The wide consensus from reports is Murray will be traded this offseason, as the franchise looks to move in a new direction. Plenty of suitors have emerged from the Las Vegas Raiders, Minnesota Vikings and the New York Jets.
However, a new team could pull the trigger on a trade for the two-time Pro Bowler following the hiring of their new head coach. The Pittsburg Steelers just hired Mike McCarthy as their head coach, and with Aaron Rodgers future in doubt, Murray could be the answer.

McCarthy reportedly interested in Murray:
Steelers beat reporter Nick Farabaugh went into detail about McCarthy’s interest in the 28-year-old quarterback. However, a potential trade all weighs on the status of Rodgers. The 42-year-old just finished his 21st season and hasn’t illustrated whether he wants to play in 2026. Last year was the first time in three years that the former MVP made the playoffs, or had a winning record as a starter.

Rodgers is a free agent and can decide to hang his Hall of Fame career up. If that were to happen Murray to Pittsburgh has a serious opportunity of coming to fruition. The Steelers have made the playoffs five out of the last six years and look to continue that trend under McCarthy. The roster just went 10-7 under former head coach Mike Tomlin and likely want to remain competitive next season.
Murray has only made the playoffs once in his seven-year career. Despite that, the former first overall pick is uber athletic and talented that has the case of being plagued by the roster surrounding him. Inserting a quarterback in his prime into a roster that just made the playoffs with Rodgers who is one the clear decline, could be enough for Pittsburgh to pull the trigger for Murray.
