Antonio Conte praises Liam Rosenior ahead of Napoli vs Chelsea Champions League showdown

Antonio Conte is set to welcome his old club Chelsea to Naples in what is a crunch Champions League clash for both sides.

Napoli will be desperate to bounce back after a disappointing 3-0 loss to Brighton and Hove Albion, putting added pressure on the fixture against Rosenior’s side.

But with Napoli needing a result to avoid falling further behind in the group, Conte knows it won’t be an easy task. Speaking ahead of the match, he praised Rosenior and acknowledged the challenge ahead.

Conte also spoke about his admiration for Liam Rosenior and the job he’s done at Chelsea:

“Liam has done a really good job. Last season they finished outside of the top eight but this year they are fighting inside that pack for Champions League places again. “We will try our best but we know how difficult it will be, not only because Chelsea are a great team but because we need to prove something from the defeat at Brighton.”

Diego Costa recently spoke out against Antonio Conte’s time at Chelsea, claiming the players didn’t get along with him during his tenure.

Conte, though, seemed to brush off those comments and offered a more reflective take on his old club, speaking to Corriere Dello Sport.

He also went on to praise both Roman Abramovich and the current ownership group.

“We won the Premier League in the first year, losing the FA Cup final. In the following season we won it. I want to thank owner Abramovich. Together with Marina they gave me the opportunity to have my first experience abroad.

“It was a wonderful experience. Now Chelsea is continuing to have the same winning mentality, the same desire to win. They buy young and important players. They are building something important for the future.“
