Tanner Banks explains what's going on.
The Philadelphia Phillies haven't been thought of as a trade favorite for Luis Robert Jr., but they certainly could use the White Sox star centerfielder.
And one of the Phillies' pitchers, Tanner Banks, used to be Robert's teammate in Chicago.
That set up Banks to be asked this weekend about what he thinks is going on with Robert, and how a trade might help him.
Here's what Banks told beat reporter Scott Lauber:
“Across the board in baseball, sometimes that’s what it takes. Just a breath of fresh air. It has nothing to do with where you’re at. Sometimes people just get stuck in doing the same thing, and just a fresh set of eyes, you snap back to reality a little bit. Robert’s a gamer. Certain guys, you wonder if they’re hurt or if they’re pulling the chute.”

The idea Banks is alluding to, essentially, is that Robert may be energized by going somewhere new.
It can't be easy to play for a team that lost more than anyone in baseball history last year, and one that isn't a whole lot better this season.
Robert has heated up of late. Maybe it's coincidence, or maybe this is a guy hoping to get traded.
The White Sox could keep him, with two club options still on his contract for 2026 and 2027.
But if Robert gets traded and hits the ground running, don't be surprised. Banks has already shared that that's very much what the outcome might be.
