Appling County (Ga.) was a solid football program out of Georgia’s Class 2A last season under the watch of Tucker Pruitt, who is now at Camden County. The Pirates on Monday announced who will be the next in line to take over running the football team for 2026.
According to a Facebook announcement by the Appling County football team, Lowndes quarterbacks coach John David Sellers has been tabbed as the program’s next head football coach.
“Appling County High School is excited to announce John David Sellers as our new Head Football Coach. As an ACHS alumnus, Coach Sellers returns home with a deep understanding of our tradition, our community, and what it means to be a Pirate,” Appling County football said via the Facebook announcement.
David Sellers last season coached Texas A&M commitment Jayce Johnson as the Vikings finished with a 10-2 record and made a deep playoff run in Class 6A.
The Pirates ended the 2025 Georgia high school football season with a record of 8-4, reaching the Class 2A playoffs before falling to state finalist Hapeville Charter, 35-27.
Appling County ended the 2025 season as the state’s No. 102 ranked team, according to the final Georgia 2025 High School Football Massey Rankings.
