Last season, when the Chicago White Sox were on track to break a record for being the worst team in MLB history, Luis Robert Jr trade rumors suggested a big shakeup was coming. Yet, despite plenty of interest, the White Sox decided to hang onto their All-Star centerfielder.

Now that the White Sox are trending toward their second consecutive last-place finish in the American League Central, it’s time to reconsider trading Robert. With the July 31 MLB trade deadline quickly approaching, the White Sox will have to work quickly to find a trade partner for the 27-year-old.

Yet, according to USA Today’s MLB expert Bob Nightengale, a deal with the New York Mets could be close. Though, the White Sox are apparently demanding that the Mets include 25-year-old third baseman Mark Vientos in the trade.

“The Chicago White Sox want third baseman Mark Vientos from the New York Mets in any deal for Luis Robert Jr., who has a .983 OPS in 11 July games.”

Robert has two seasons remaining on his contract, and they’re both team options, giving his next team full control over his future. If picked up, he’ll earn $20 million in both years.

Meanwhile, Vientos broke out in a big way in 2024, hitting 27 home runs while finishing with an OPS+ of 136. However, aside from the recent hot stretch Nightengale referenced, he’s regressed back to the norm this year, with an OPS+ of 84.
