Right-handed starting pitcher Aaron Nola has appeared in eleven seasons for the Philadelphia Phillies.
Since debuting during the 2015 season at age 22, he’s become the rotation’s workhorse, leading all of MLB in starts twice—in 2019 and again in 2024. His heavy workload hasn’t limited his success: in 277 regular-season starts, Nola has posted a 3.78 ERA with a 105–86 record over 1,671 innings pitched.
Nola has also consistently shined in October. In the 2023 playoffs, he posted a 3–1 record with a 2.35 ERA and 23 strikeouts over four appearances, as Philadelphia fell just short of the World Series.
This spring, Nola landed on the injured list with a right ankle sprain and was placed on the 15-day IL on May 16. Imaging during his recovery revealed a stress fracture in his right rib cage, prompting a transfer to the 60-day IL.
Following a pain-free bullpen session in which he reached a 60-pitch count, Nola provided an update that he would finally be making his rehab assignment: “It's tough not pitching. I went on the IL in May so it’s been a little while. I'm here to pitch, and that's what I'm used to doing... I'm excited to go to Lehigh and pitch a couple games over there and finally get game situations.”

Prior to the injury, Nola struggled in nine starts, posting a 1–7 record with a 6.16 ERA. His final outing before landing on the IL was especially rough, surrendering nine runs on twelve hits over 3.2 innings against the St. Louis Cardinals.
When he returns, the Phillies will rely on their veteran ace to rediscover his form and power another push toward October baseball.
