German men's ski jumpers hope that more gender equality can be reached by having the women contest ski flying world championships as well.

"They could basically start immediately. Some of them can fly really cool," German jumper Philipp Raimund said of the women's level at the men's worlds in Oberstdorf which ended on Sunday.

The women had first World Cup flying events in March 2024 on the Norwegian hill of Vikersund. Three competitions are scheduled for this season in Vikersund and Planica, Slovenia.

The women's world record is 236 metres from Slovenian Nika Prevc, not far away from the men's record set by her brother, Domen Prevc, at 254.5m.

The next ski flying worlds for the men are 2028 in Planica. It is not clear whether the women could join.

Karl Geier, the flying world champion from 2020, agreed with Raimund that the women "are ready.

"I believe they will soon be part of it. It will come. They are competing on flying hills and have proven that they can do it," Geiger said.

"You must coordinate the schedule so that both can look at the sporting side. It must not be cobbled together."

A women's Four Hills is finally to debut next season along with the 75th edition of the men's event but men and women will not yet compete together at all World Cup stops in 2026-27, as originally planned.
