Guthrie Athlete of the Week candidates are from Maine-Endwell, Norwich, Union-Endicott, Tioga, Elmira Notre Dame and Watkins Glen.

Select from eight candidates for Guthrie Athlete of the Week for the period of Jan. 18-24, 2026.

Nominees are from the coverage areas of the Binghamton Press & Sun-Bulletin, Elmira Star-Gazette, Ithaca Journal and Corning Leader.

Voting will be open until noon Thursday, Jan. 29.

The nominees:

Strati Anastos, Maine-Endwell boys swimming: Anastos topped the New York state standard with his wins in the 50-yard freestyle (21.89) and 100 freestyle (48.01) to help the Spartans take the team title at the Maine-Endwell Blizzard Invitational.

Maverick Beckwith, Norwich boys wrestling: Beckwith earned his fourth Southern Tier Athletic Conference title at the league's championship meet. Beckwith's win at 150 pounds included two technical falls and a pin.

Alex Bierworth, Union-Endicott boys swimming: He won the 200 and 500 freestyles at the Maine-Endwell Blizzard Invitational. Bierworth's time of 1:47.25 in the 200 re-qualified for the state meet and his 500 time of 4:53.09 was a personal best and half a second from the state standard.

Marco Konrad, Maine-Endwell boys basketball: Konrad scored 22 points, including three free throws with 20 seconds left, in M-E's 57-56 win over Sitka (Alaska) at the Alaska Airlines Classic in Anchorage. He scored 20 points in a loss to East Anchorage in the opening round and closed the event with 27 points in a loss to Alaska's West Valley in the fourth-place game.

Declan McKee, Tioga Central boys wrestling: McKee won the 110-pound title at the Interscholastic Athletic Conference Championships with two first-minute pins and a major decision. Earlier in the week, he won by pin in the semifinal and final of the Section 4 Division II Dual Meet Tournament to help the Tigers claim the title.

Max O'Connor, Elmira Notre Dame boys basketball: O'Connor scored 28 points and hit four 3-pointers to lead the Crusaders to a 77-70 win over Watkins Glen.

Jude Santos, Watkins Glen boys basketball: Santos had 27 points, 12 rebounds and four steals in a 55-40 win over Lansing. He followed with 23 points and nine rebounds in a 77-70 loss to Notre Dame.

Rachel Vickio, Watkins Glen girls basketball: Vickio hit four 3-pointers and scored 22 points in a 57-41 win over Lansing. Later in the week, she had 21 points and three 3-pointers in a 64-36 victory over Notre Dame.
