Guernsey FC's record goalscorer Ross Allen scored the 29th hat-trick of his illustrious career to help his side win 5-1 at Newhaven.

The 38-year-old took his tally to 303 career goals for the Green Lions as they consolidated third place in the Southern Combination Premier Division.

He opened the scoring in the 15th minute and added a second 17 minutes later before Sam Murray made it 3-0 soon after.

Ryan Blunt pulled a goal back for the hosts seven minutes into the second half, but Murray made it 4-1 five minutes later before Allen completed his hat-trick with 25 minuets to go.

"Looking at some of those goals today it could be one of my best ever [hat-tricks] in terms of the quality of finish," Allen told BBC Radio Guernsey.

"But at this stage of my career just playing is a bonus - I felt that out there today, you're going to still get the odd special game but it's getting harder.

"Today I just left it all out there and luckily the finishes came off and it just helped us cement a really important win and that's what it's all about for me now.

"It used to be more about being ruthless, being a goalscorer and ultimately that would help us win, now it's more about how I can help these players develop and us get the results in different ways and other people getting on the scoresheet - but it's always nice to get a few."
