FC Bayern was hampered by many mistakes vs. FC Augsburg — not just one by Jonas Urbig.
On FC Augsburg’s game-tying goal vs. Bayern Munich on Saturday, goalkeeper Jonas Urbig attempted to leap out and punch a ball away, but could not reach his target due to some traffic and because he misjudged the trajectory of the ball.
Ultimately, the corner delivery dipped right on the head of Arthur Chaves who put it home to knot the game at 1-1 before FC Augsburg eventually pulled out a 2-1 win on the road over Bayern Munich.
For center-back Jonathan Tah, it was a situation where Urbig could have done better, but also one he can learn from.
“As a defender, I probably bear some responsibility for every goal conceded. He shouldn’t let it get to him. The criticism is even more extreme with goalkeepers because you can say in every situation: ‘He should have jumped earlier,’ ‘He should have come out earlier,’ whatever. He shouldn’t think about it too much. But I also had the feeling that he wasn’t thinking about it too much,” Tah told Bild (as captured by @iMiaSanMia).
Bayern Munich board member for sport Max Eberl concurred.
“When you lose a game as a team, you’re always somehow involved. Jonas knows he could have done better, but as I said: it’s not Jonas’s fault. We win as a collective and we lose together,” Eberl noted.
