Arthur Smith expected to become offensive coordinator at Ohio State

Another name off the board of potential OCs for the Titans

I did not see this one coming. Ian Rapoport is reporting that Arthur Smith is expected to head to the college ranks to become the next offensive coordinator at Ohio State.

Smith takes over for Brian Hartline, who left the Buckeyes to be the head coach at the University of South Florida.

Yesterday, it was reported that the Tennessee Titans and Arthur Smith had a conversation about the OC job in Tennessee. You can cross another potential name off of Robert Saleh’s list of potential OCs.

Smith did get his start in coaching at the college level when he was a graduate assistant at North Carolina in 2006. The following season, he got a job with Washington and has been in the NFL ever since.

Honestly, I’m glad that Art won’t be coming back as the OC. He was great here with Derrick Henry, Ryan Tannehill, and A.J. Brown, but has been unable to replicate that success in his last two stops – first as the head coach of the Atlanta Falcons and second as the OC of the Pittsburgh Steelers.

This is the second name today that has been mentioned as a potential OC for Saleh, who has taken a job elsewhere. The first was Bobby Slowik, who will be the OC of the Miami Dolphins.

All eyes for the Titans continue to be on Brian Daboll.
