Saturday Night Open Thread:  All I Really Want

Come and join this merry band of Steelers’ faithful for some lively debate about our Steelers, good food, music, and the merits of the odd cold beverage.

Live from Delaware, it’s Saturday Night! I, NAS204PSU, am here at BTSC to bring you this Saturday Night Open Thread (aka SNOT).

No matter who signs where, there is always someone saying “Steelers missed out on…” in this year’s coaching carousel, but then again I’m sure whoever we sign (editor’s note: Mike McCarthy) will immediately have some internet rando calling for him to be fired. In my experience, hiring is always a crap shoot, but the Steelers last 3 darts hit a bullseye (Lombardi).  All I really want is to raise #7 with the next guy.

This 6 pack of questions is here to get the conversation going, so let us know what you’re eating/drinking!

1: Five teams besides the Steelers have their new head coach. Do you feel like the Steelers “missed out” on any of them?

  • Jesse Minter -> Ravens
  • John Harbaugh -> Giants
  • Jeff Hafley -> Dolphins
  • Robert Saleh -> Titans
  • Kevin Stefanski -> Falcons

2. Kyle T did a Coaching Search Grid based on voting in feed comments (Final version here). Did “we” get any squares wrong?

3. The Steelers coaching staff were told they could find new jobs or wait for the new head coach to rehire them, and Danny Smith is heading to the Bucs. He may be taking his giant wad of gum to Tampa, but he’s leaving one stuck to our hearts. Share your favorite Steelers special teams play since 2013 (suggestions below since I couldn’t find a highlight reel. Also, here’s a “Danny Smith gum core” video).

4. A new regime is coming in, so there’s a lot of uncertainty. Players won’t be moving until the new league year, but what do you think should happen to TJ Watt?

  • Use him correctly, he’s still a pro-bowler under a competent DC
  • Trade him, he ain’t worth the money / we aren’t competing this year
  • Cut him, he’s toast ($94 mill dead money and a hugh cap hit)

5. I’ve had, and still have, several coworkers who we said should not be hired when they toured during their interview process, but the powers to be hired ’em anyway. One was fired within a year, and another other is still creating headaches at work 10 years later. What’s the biggest red flags on an interview or saw someone do on an interview visit that management ignored?

6. I’ve been listening to The Dave Ramsey Show podcasts lately (Baby step 5!). What are your favorite podcasts?
