Philadelphia Phillies right fielder Nick Castellanos is drawing interest from the Kansas City Royals, who "might consider" trading for him at the deadline.

With less than a week to go until the MLB trade deadline, the Philadelphia Phillies are looking to make some key additions to the roster in the outfield and the bullpen.
But, in a recent article from Jon Heyman in The New York Post, the Phillies are drawing interest in one of their outfielders at the deadline, and it's not Brandon Marsh or Max Kepler.
Nick Castellanos is reportedly drawing interest from the Kansas City Royals, as the Royals "might consider Nick Castellanos, if available."
Castellanos is the current Phillies right fielder and has one more year in his $100 million deal. The 33-year-old has been with the Phillies for the past four seasons and is of interest to the Royals at the deadline.
If the Phillies did move on from Castellanos, the already weak outfield would get much weaker. While he's accounted for -0.4 WAR this season, Castellanos has been a solid hitter.
He's batting .269 with a .742 OPS through 101 games this season. He has 104 hits, 22 doubles, 13 home runs, and 55 RBIs. He's been solid during his stint in Philadelphia, but his defense leaves much to be desired.
According to Baseball Savant, Castellanos has -10 Outs Above Average, the lowest mark in all of baseball. He has -11 Fielding Run Value, also the lowest in baseball this season.
Moving on from Castellanos could dramatically improve the defense, and if the Phillies could land a different outfielder at the deadline, it could open the door to an outfield overhaul at the deadline.
Both corner outfielders, Kepler and Castellanos, could be gone by the trade deadline. If so, and the Phillies call up Justin Crawford and add an outfielder at the deadline, the outfield could look a lot different for a postseason push.
With Castellanos and manager Rob Thomson butting heads during a series against the Miami Marlins earlier this season, there's more reason to move on from Castellanos than just his poor defense and average offense.
If the Phillies send Castellanos to Kansas City, the outfield could look much different from the way it did at the beginning of the season. It could also save much money, further incentivizing such a trade concept.
