Urbig could have done 'better' in Augsburg loss, says Bayern chief

Bayern Munich reserve goalkeeper Jonas Urbig's latest mistake helped condemn the leaders to their first Bundesliga loss of the season on Saturday - and his club chief gave him lukewarm backing. Hiroki Ito had handed the hosts the lead but Urbig, 22, failed to claim a corner as Arthur Chaves headed in an equalizer for Augsburg.

Han-Noah Massengo sealed the surprise 2-1 victory on 81 minutes.

"When you lose a match, you lose as a team, you are in it together," Bayern board member for sport Max Eberl told Sky.

"Jonas knows he might be able to do better there. But for me, it's not really Jonas Urbig's fault."

Urbig was playing because usual keeper Manuel Neuer, 40 in March, was rested. The decision backfired and increases the chances that Bayern will try even harder to convince Neuer to play on for another year.

Bayern also own Stuttgart keeper Alexander Nübel but like Urbig, his form has been patchy this term.

Bayern coach Vincent Kompany said: "Congratulations to Augsburg.
There are matches where the opponents play well, and we are currently in a spell of five matches in 13 days. From experience, we know that such results can happen."

The Bavarians have already qualified for the Champions League last 16 ahead of their league phase finale on Wednesday at PSV Eindhoven.
