One of country's best flag football quarterbacks, record-breaker Marlie Phillips, transferring from Chandler Hamilton to Peoria Liberty in Arizona.
A record‑setting Arizona flag football star is changing programs.
Sophomore quarterback Marlie Phillips, who led Chandler Hamilton to a 38‑0 record and back‑to‑back 6A state championships, is transferring to Peoria Liberty, according to Logan Stanley of The Arizona Republic.
Phillips shattered the state single‑season passing record in 2025 with 6,079 yards and 104 touchdowns, helping elevate Hamilton to No. 2 nationally in the final USA TODAY rankings. She was also named The Arizona Republic’s Offensive Player of the Year for the 2025 season.
In an interview with The Republic, Phillips said the move stems from her desire to help build a stronger team culture. “There were different things I expected out of a very prestigious program that weren’t there year two,” she said, adding that Liberty offers “a fresh start” and an opportunity to “rebuild, start from scratch.”
Travel also played a major role. Phillips lives in Youngtown and had been commuting nearly 100 miles round‑trip to Hamilton. Liberty, which finished 8‑9 last season, becomes a far more practical fit.
Phillips expressed gratitude for her time at Hamilton, praising teammates and former assistant coach Michael Maccagnano, now at Arizona Christian University. “They were two very memorable years,” Hamilton head coach Matt Stone told The Republic.
