Cameron Smotherman has broken his silence after the frightening incident that led to the cancellation of his fight against Ricky Turcios at UFC 324.

Smotherman was already under pressure heading into the bout, having lost two in a row, and the weigh-in mishap only added to concerns about his future.

Despite appearing fine during weigh-ins, he collapsed as he walked off stage, raising immediate alarms.

The bout was scrapped soon after, with social media users quick to respond. Smotherman has since come forward to explain that he did not find the weight cut particularly tough, even though it did not look that way at the time.

In a video shared on his Instagram, Cameron Smotherman insisted that he had made weight without any issues and was not sure what caused him to collapse. He said he plans to undergo further tests to get answers.

“Obviously I have gotten a lot of messages and I appreciate all of the genuine concern about me. I’m completely okay. I’m good,” Smotherman told his followers while looking much better after rehydrating and getting medical assistance.

“I’m not entirely sure what happened. I see a lot of people online saying, ‘oh, it’s crazy weight cuts’, stuff like that. I genuinely didn’t cut very much weight for this fight. I came in pretty low, but over the course of this week, I haven’t cut much weight.

“I’m not entirely sure what happened and I have some more tests and stuff to take in the coming weeks to get to the bottom of it. But for all the people saying I must have done a crazy cut or something like that. I cut very, very little weight.

“I’m not sure what happened. But yeah, I appreciate the concern. I’m completely okay and I’ll hopefully be back soon. I apologise to my opponent and uh, yeah.”
