It’s matchday
We face Villarreal away tonight. It’s expected to be a more difficult game than the one we had vs Monaco.
Could Xabi worked had he approached players differently?
It’s an interesting question. But in reality we will never known the answer. Let’s elaborate a bit on this.
Imo, judging by the coach Xabi was when he was appointed, I don’t think he could approached players differently.
He is a tactician, namely he has his degree with obsession with tactics, structure, organization, etc. So, a highly technical person comes to coach one of the most technical squads in the world. He likely believed he’d wonders with this group. I can see a person like him to be highly focused and motivated to coach this group of players. Besides, if he heard for any reason, that Ancelotti was too light with the players, this clear could have been an incentive for him to be even more rigid/demanding. What if he heard exactly what was reported last season — That Ancelotti lacked tactical work?
He clear came here to continue his trend of being a highly technical coach. But he arrived after Ancelotti, who was not only like a father figure, but was a too light of a coach. Alonso might not even understood the players need to have this bond before the football ideas or principles. (However, it’s reported that his relationship with Bayer players were very good)
Ancelotti has commented on this many times. For him, the relationship with the players comes first. And very unlikely that Alonso also believed in this. One might say that Alonso lacked experience to judge the group of players he had. But another person can contest, by saying that this is not the coach Alonso wants to be. But we know that he changed so fast and tried to accommodate to fit the players. This suggests he wants to adapt to this kind os situations.
Looking ahead, let’s see if Arbeloa will fit here and be successful. Our only two successful coaches of the past decade likely won’t be available any time soon. Zidane likely will coach France NT after 2026 World Cup. Ancelotti is already coaching Brazil NT and ESPN reported he and CBF reached an agreement for an extension until 2030. So, very likely we will have to figure it out without them, unless one of them gets the sacking earlier than expected.
If Arbeloa doesn’t win anything, should Real Madrid look for Mourinho?
