Trae Taylor Is Transferring to Millard South – Along with the Rest of the 2027 Class?

Trae Taylor is coming to town & will he be bringing other classmates with him? Let’s speculate wildly!

On Wednesday, also known as yesterday, the headlines more or less read as follows:

Nebraska QB Commit Trae Taylor Moving to Lincoln To Play for Millard South Next Season

That by itself would have had things buzzing on more than one front in Nebraska, both positively and negatively, for days.

  • Trae Taylor is doubling down on his commitment to the Huskers by moving here early!
  • Wait – Dylan Raiola did the same thing moving to Buford, GA, to double down on his commitment to the Dawgs.
  • This is different – Trae has only played for one other high school as opposed to to Dylan playing for four different ones in four years.
  • Wait a minute – Millard South? Wasn’t this the team with 17 college commitments, 10 to Division 1/FBS schools?
  • The team who blew through the season beating opponents by an average of about 68-7 and literally outscored their 4 opponents in the playoffs 204-27? Led to more than a few upset folks and “discussions” about how they managed to load such a talent-heavy roster.
  • THAT’s who’s getting Trae?
  • My first thought – Trae’s been quite the recruiter for the Huskers – will he try to bring any of his Class of 2027 future Huskers teammates to Lincoln to join him on that daily commute to school?

As it turned out, fate didn’t even let the night pass for me to get that thought in digital print before the 2nd national prospect and 2027 Husker commit announced his intentions as well to join Taylor with the Patriots for their senior season.

But first things first – yes, Trae Taylor plans to move to Lincoln and live there with his mother while making the daily drive to Millard South for a single semester this fall before enrolling early in Lincoln for the 2027 spring semester. For those wondering about that daily commute, it will be shorter than the one he currently makes to Carmel Catholic High School in Mundelein, Illinois, from his home in the Chicago suburbs.

He has also stated his intentions to spend as much time as possible the Huskers training complex with the team, even going so far to refer to his time before becoming a Husker as an unofficial redshirt season without it counting as one.

Taylor would also keep recruiting for his group as the face of the 2027 class and will now be on site in Lincoln for any prospects making visits. As a prospect himself, he is the consensus #4 ranked quarterback and #54 ranked player overall in the 2027 group.

And as it turned out, not even a day went by before another member of that class announced they would be joining Millard South as well.

That’s right – Crowley, Texas, senior-to-be Tay Ellis announced he would also join the Taylor at Millard South. He is the consensus #54 receiver in the country. For Ellis, the move to Millard South would be an upgrade in team talent as Crowley High finished 2025 with a 3-8 record which included being eliminated by Southlake Carroll 35-0 in the first round of the playoffs.

Are the Patriots done with 2027 Husker recruit transfers? Only time will tell – and if it keeps telling at lightspeed, it might do so while this bad boy is being put to digital print, so feel free to blast any new links in the comments while I hopefully keep things posted on Twitter in a timely manner.

Oh yeah, here’s an unconfirmed rumor which has people buzzing. As of now, Ahmad Hudson is reportedly still enrolled at Ruston, Louisiana, High School and, of course, any Twitter/X report whose title begins with “Barstool” should be taken with an entire shaker of salt. As of now, On3 still has him listed as 96.1% likely to be headed to LSU, although they may want to adjust that a little after this interview on their site.

However, Twitter rumors are what we demand, so here you are:

So that’s where we stand currently and a couple more bullet points can be added – mostly as food for thought at this point, depending on where everything lands eventually.

  • With Ellis and possibly others from the ‘27 class joining Millard South, where does this leave Nebraska high school AND college football teams?
  • Fans seem very happy to have Trae doubling down on his Husker commitment by moving to Lincoln.
  • Fans seem very unhappy about a potential repeat of the 2025 season with the Patriots beating the brakes off everyone in front of them a second time.
  • Can these two situations coexist peacefully?
  • If this stops at Taylor and Ellis, perhaps it ends up as sort of a wash where Taylor replaces 4-star QB Jett Thomella and Ellis replaces 3-star Amarion Jackson, both 2025 Patriots who will play for Alabama and Penn State respectively next season. (Not an exact trade, I know) Millard South was 39th nationally in the Rivals/On3 final 2025 rankings – an excellent finish but not the highest ever in Nebraska history.
  • But if ‘27 commits continue to trickle in and slowly load the 2026 Millard South squad into something which could beat the ‘25 group by a few touchdowns, is it possible they only find 2 or 3 Nebraska schools willing to play them this season?
  • Or…well, see below.

I’ve got to admit it was fun to stretch these developments to an extreme. Even if the transfer bus to Millard ends with only Trae and Tay, that will be enough to fan the flames of the current issues with high school football in Nebraska.

However, let me take one last swing into what-if land if I may. Let’s say 9 or 10 or lads decide to take up residence in the Omaha-Lincoln area to play ball for the Patriots.

Would the next question to ask be how deep is Nebraska’s hand is in all this? Would they be making a next-level move as a quiet sponsor of the whole thing to get a chunk of their recruiting class basically playing together for a year against a national schedule? Bringing back the old freshman team in a way, but as high school seniors?

Stay tuned. I can’t think of much which would surprise me as the dust settles on all this.
