Kam Williams recovery timeline update

Williams could potentially return this season.

In the midst of Kentucky Basketball’s valiant win over Texas Wednesday night, 85-80 in a game that, once again, went down to the wire, the devastation of Kam Williams’s injury is lingering into Thursday and for an indefinite period of time.

Mark Pope said after the game Wednesday night that Williams has a broken foot and will be out “for a while.” He didn’t definitively say Williams would be out for the remainder of the season, but now we have a little more transparency on the timeline.

According to Larry Vaught, Williams could undergo surgery as early as this week. The range for which Williams could return to the court is between six weeks and four months.

Six weeks from now would be just before the SEC Tournament. That’s the best-case scenario. If he does come back, then he may not be 100%.

But if it’s closer to four months, then Williams won’t be back until May.

KSR’s Jack Pilgrim had a similar update on when Williams could return.

“As for what they’re working with now, it’s a decision between surgical and non-surgical paths, the former giving Williams a six-to-eight-week best-case return timeline. The worst-case timeline is 10 to 12 weeks. Should they opt against surgery, it’s a two-to-four-month timeline with a higher possibility of reinjury,” wrote Pilgrim.

Kentucky has had more than its fair share of injuries in the last two seasons. In Mark Pope’s first season, Jaxson Robinson and Kerr Kriisa all sustained season-ending injuries, while Lamont Butler battled multiple injuries that had him in and out of the lineup.

This season, the Wildcats have lost Jaland Lowe to a shoulder injury and have Jayden Quaintance currently out with swelling in his knee.

Pope still managed to guide the Wildcats to the Sweet 16 last year in spite of the team’s extensive injury adversity. That challenge is now presenting itself again this season as the Wildcats look to win their fifth straight game on Saturday when they host the Ole Miss Rebels.
