It’s no coincidence that Angel Reese sat out on the same night that the Chicago Sky suffered their worst defeat of the season. This came in the form of a 95-57 blowout loss against the Seattle Storm at Wintrust Arena on Thursday night.
Simply put, the Sky were thoroughly outplayed by the Storm, who dominated from start to finish. The 38-point loss represents Chicago’s most significant deficit this season.
Reese headed into Thursday’s matchup with a questionable tag after sustaining a back injury. It is unclear exactly when the 23-year-old suffered the injury because Reese looked fine in Chicago’s loss to the Minnesota Lynx on Tuesday.
Either way, the Sky opted to err on the side of caution and have the former LSU star sit out the Storm game, which put them at a clear disadvantage.
Chicago Sky Coach Tyler Marsh Provides an Update on Angel Reese
Sky head coach Tyler Marsh spoke to reporters after the loss, and one of the questions he faced centered on Reese’s injury. The rookie shot-caller provided a timely update on Reese’s status.
"Angel is day-to-day,” Marsh said, according to Sky beat reporter Karli Bell. “Pretty sore this morning and didn't want to mess with it being a back issue. We'll see how she is on Sunday."
Based on Marsh’s comments here, Reese’s injury does not seem serious. She’s also day-to-day, which means that she has a considerable chance of suiting up in Chicago’s next game. This takes place on Sunday in a highly anticipated matchup against their biggest rivals, the Indiana Fever.
Unfortunately, Caitlin Clark is not expected to play, as the Fever said Thursday that the reigning WNBA Rookie of the Year has no timetable for her return from a re-aggravated groin injury.
