Manchester City players to refund fans' Champions League tickets

Manchester City players will refund tickets for nearly 400 fans who who watched their Champions League loss to Bodo/Glimt, they announced Wednesday.

Jan. 21 (UPI) -- Manchester City players will refund tickets for nearly 400 fans who who watched their Champions League loss to Bodo/Glimt, they announced Wednesday.

Captains Erling Haaland, Bernardo Silva, Ruben Dias and Rodri issued a statement to announce the move. Bodo/Glimt shocked the Sky Blues with a 3-1 upset victory in the Champions League league phase meeting Tuesday in Bodo, Norway.

"Our supporters mean everything to us," the group said in a statement. "We know the sacrifice that our fans make when they travel across the world to support us home and away and we will never take it for granted. They are the best fans in the world.

"We also recognize that it was a lot of traveling for the fans who supported us in the freezing cold throughout a difficult evening for us on the pitch. Covering the cost of these tickets for the fans who travelled to Bodo is the least we can do."

The Sky Blues are 4-2-1 in the league phase and sit in 10th place in the Champions League standings. They will take on Galatasaray in another league phase match Jan. 28 in Manchester, England.

The Sky Blues will take on the Wolverhampton Wanderers in a Premier League match at 10 a.m. EST Saturday in Manchester. They owns a 13-5-4 record in Premier League play and sit in second place in the league standings, seven points behind first-place Arsenal (15-2-5). Wolves (1-16-5) sit in last place and are in danger of relegation.

"We're ready to fight on Saturday against Wolves and again next Wednesday when we face Galatasaray in front of our amazing fans at the Etihad," the Sky Blues captains said.
