Manchester City head coach Andrée Jeglertz says that his side are in a completely different place from their last meeting with Subway Women’s League Cup opponents Chelsea.
The Cityzens play host to The Blues in the semi-finals at The Joie Stadium on Wednesday night.
Manchester City’s only defeat this season came at the hands of the South West Londoners on the opening day. Reflecting on his side’s progression since that 2-1 loss, Manchester City boss Jeglertz said that the team are in a completely different place.
“A lot of things [are different],” Jeglertz said when speaking in the pre-match press conference. “First of all, we are confident in knowing what we are supposed to do. We are clear with our relationships, clear with the game model, we have been winning a lot of games, we have a great squad and we know what we can expect from each other.
“I was only here for a month before we played that first game, so right now, we are in a different place. It’s definitely a big change since then.”
Chelsea have not been at their absolute best throughout the season, although the goals have started to flow in recent games. Jeglertz still views The Blues as a strong opponent despite their setbacks in the first half of the campaign.
He said “Chelsea are a great team. Everybody is talking about them not having such a good season so far but just look at their results and how they have performed, it’s a great team.
“Losing a few points and playing lots of games in the autumn has caused a little bit of a drop in some parts of their game but it’s a great team with great individual players and they’ve had huge success in the past.
“They’re a team that are coming with confidence into this game.”
Manchester City have not won a trophy since lifting the Subway Women’s League Cup in 2022 but Jeglertz has a desire to end that drought.
He said “I came to this club because I want to win something and to win something, you’ve got to be in finals. This is definitely a great opportunity to qualify for that.
“We will do everything we can to win on Wednesday.”
