Barcelona change transfer approach for centre forward position – report

According to a recent report from Mundo Deportivo, Barcelona have already drawn a clear line in the sand when it comes to their transfer strategy for the centre-forward position. 

The outlet mentions that the club’s idea is not to gamble on potential or invest heavily in a striker for the distant future, but to bring in a ready-made player who can deliver from day one.

Internally, the priority list has been defined and agreed upon across the sporting structure. 

The focus is on three specific areas, namely, replacing Robert Lewandowski, signing a left-footed centre-back, and adding a winger. 

Crucially, these are not seen as long-term projects but as immediate solutions, as Barcelona want players who are already established at the highest level.

Barcelona are very particular

There is a shared understanding between Hansi Flick and Deco that the next transfer window must strengthen the team instantly, especially given the demands of competing at the top in both domestic and European competitions. 

As a result, any temptation to spend large sums on raw talent with uncertain timelines has been pushed aside.

Within this framework, Lewandowski’s replacement is viewed as a cornerstone decision. 

That is why the club has narrowed its focus to profiles that combine experience, reliability, and tactical intelligence.

There is a target

At the top of that list sits Atletico Madrid’s Julian Alvarez, who at 25 years of age is considered to be entering his prime. 

The Argentine generates the strongest consensus inside the club, largely because of his all-round qualities. 

He is not only valued for his goal-scoring instinct, but also for his ability to link play, combine with teammates, and function within a possession-based system. 

From a sporting point of view, Alvarez is viewed as a natural fit for the footballing model the club wants to consolidate. 

As such, with proven players at the top of the shopping list, Barcelona are aiming to ensure that their next striker can step straight into Lewandowski’s shoes without a lengthy adaptation period.
