American winger Tim Weah’s move from Juventus to Marseille has hit a wall. What looked like a done deal is now stuck, with the two clubs unable to agree on the financials.

With the 2026 World Cup getting closer and the US hosting, he can’t afford to spend another season on the bench.

Earlier this summer it looked like a move to Nottingham Forest was happening. The Premier League side had agreed a €15m fee with Juventus but Weah and Forest couldn’t agree personal terms. That left Marseille as the clear favourite.

Going back to Ligue 1 makes sense for Tim Weah. He came through the youth ranks at PSG and later found success at Lille so France is familiar ground.
Marseille also have Champions League football next season and new manager Roberto De Zerbi has a good track record with creative players.

The 25 year old player has agreed personal terms and is keen on the move, but it’s up to the clubs to sort it out. The structure being discussed is a loan with an option or obligation to buy. But that’s where things have stalled.

Juventus want a total package of around €20m including bonuses. But Marseille like most Ligue 1 clubs don’t have the same financial muscle as top Premier League or Serie A clubs and are trying to negotiate better terms.

Tim Weah’s agent hasn’t held back in criticising Juventus’s handling of the negotiations and has made it clear the player doesn’t want to stay in Turin unless something changes.

So for now everything is stuck. Marseille are ready, Weah is ready and Juventus are willing to sell, but not unless they get what they want. There’s still time before the window closes but unless the clubs can meet in the middle Weah might be stuck waiting again, just when he needs to be building momentum.
