Plymouth Argyle head coach Tom Cleverley says his side's 1-0 win at Peterborough United was their "best performance of this season".

The Pilgrims beat League One's in-form team thanks to Bim Pepple's goal midway through the first half.

The victory moved Argyle up to 14th place in the table - six points off the play-off places and three points above the relegation zone.

"Best performance of this season, there's no doubt about that," Cleverley said.

"Start to finish, in and out of possession, we managed moments, we created chances, we limited them to chances.

"I put a little bit on the game before, so it was a character test. This is a good marker for where we're at.

"I was excited about the game and the guys absolutely came up with the goods. That's the standard we've set now.

"I can't expect to be at that maximum like we were every week but we can't fall too far under that now - we've set a good marker down."

The win was Argyle's third in succession and a sixth win in seven away matches in all competitions.

It was also the second successive match when Pepple has scored the winning goal.

The 23-year-old striker has scored three goals in his last five matches, having got a 90th-minute equaliser against Wycombe before getting a late winner at Bristol Rovers in the Vertu Trophy on Tuesday night

"I'm delighted for him. His all-round performance was outstanding. He deserves this moment," Cleverley said of the forward, who had come under scrutiny for his lack of goals by some sections of the club's support.

"It's a great message for the rest of the squad... It can change in a week, it can change in two weeks, it can change in an action.

"So it's a good moment for Bim. He's absolutely showed up recently. He's scored some big goals, got some big results for us.

"He should grow in confidence from this and you can see that - and I think he's got more development in him, which is exciting."
