CAN 2025 – final | Senegal vs Morocco: both communities face high stakes
Ahead of the Africa Cup of Nations final between Senegal and Morocco, which will be played this Sunday at 8pm in Rabat, French authorities have made their decision. In Paris, where excitement traditionally runs high during major African events, no spontaneous celebrations will be tolerated on the Champs-Élysées, regardless of who emerges victorious on the night.
Strict restrictions in the capital
The Paris Police Prefecture has issued a decree banning any gathering of supporters on the Champs-Élysées and surrounding areas, just as it did during previous major CAN 2025 fixtures. The official statement is clear:
“Gatherings of people presenting themselves as supporters of the football teams competing in the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 matches, or behaving as such, are prohibited within the area (from the Louvre to Porte Maillot),” specifies the prefectural decree published on January 16.
These measures will be in effect from Sunday 6pm to Monday 2am. They also include a strict ban on pyrotechnics in the affected zones. The stated aim is clear: to prevent any public disorder amidst fervent celebrations, as Senegalese and Moroccan fans gear up for a historic final watched far beyond African borders.
