The last thing the Chicago Cubs can deal with at the moment is a long-term injury to Kyle Tucker.

Even if that means the left-handed hitting outfielder is out for a couple of games, it could sway how the National League Central finishes.

The Cubs have already struggled over the past few weeks, and with the Milwaukee Brewers playing as well as they have, it's impossible to predict what could happen in the near future.

Tucker came out of Tuesday's game against the Kansas City Royals after fouling a pitch off his knee.

However, according to Craig Counsell, the hope is that this isn't a long-term injury.

He noted that "he's good" and wanted to give him the chance to sit out over the next two days, as the Cubs don't play again until Friday against the Chicago White Sox.

“He’s good — he’s just generally banged up,” Counsell said Wednesday morning of Tucker’s absence from the lineup, per Marquee Sports Network. “(It’s an) opportunity to get him the most out of two days off here and go from there. He’ll be back in there for sure on Friday.”

Before going down from this hopefully short-term injury, there was a strong argument to be made that Tucker was playing like one of the top-five players in Major League Baseball.

He must also be careful, as he doesn't want to deal with a long-term knee injury, given that he hits free agency at the end of this campaign.

He was hitting .275 with 18 home runs, 57 RBI, and looked well on his way to getting a $500-plus million deal.
