Benjamin Sesko has Man City in his sights ahead of second Manchester derby
Manchester United are set to take on Manchester City this Saturday for the second time this season. It will mark Michael Carrick’s first match as head coach, following his return to replace Ruben Amorim earlier in the week.
Going into the game, United sit seventh in the Premier League standings, while City remain six points behind leaders Arsenal. A win for Carrick’s side could be a significant blow to City’s title hopes.
Carrick’s immediate challenge is clear: turn results around and build some momentum. United haven’t won any of their last four matches across all competitions, and that run has raised concerns among supporters.
The pressure is on for a strong showing from United’s key players. Anything less could make it a difficult afternoon at Old Trafford.
Benjamin Sesko looking to settle a score with Man City
Sesko has faced City three times in his career, but only once in a Manchester derby. The sides met at the Etihad earlier this season, where City came out 3-0 winners. Haaland scored twice, while Foden added another – his seventh goal against United.
Sesko played 80 minutes in that game but managed just 19 touches and one shot on target.
When asked what he took from that experience, he didn’t shy away from how difficult it was but also sounded optimistic about the return fixture at Old Trafford.
“It’s been tough,” Sesko told Stan Sport Football. “It’s been really tough. I know we had some struggles in that game and we didn’t get the result we wanted.
“I think now is the chance that we can turn that around. We’re going to give our best and that’s all we can do.”
United have actually looked more dangerous going forward this season, scoring 10 more goals than they had at this stage last year. That should give Carrick something to build on.
Benjamin Sesko still searching for his first win against Man City
During his time at RB Leipzig, Sesko faced Man City twice in the Champions League but came away empty-handed on both occasions.
Both matches ended in defeat for the Bundesliga side, with Sesko coming off the bench in each game.
He’s yet to find a goal or a win against City in his career so far.
But with three goals in his last two games for United, he’ll be hoping to build on that form today and finally break through against Pep Guardiola’s side.
