A legend hung up her boots, a top Brazilian striker arrived at the Nest, a Spaniard shone with a brace, and much more happened in Liga Mx Femenil’s week 2.
What were week 2 top moments? Let’s find out.
Mónica Ocampo is honored in Pachuca’s 4-0 win
Tuzas’ captain, Mónica Ocampo, finalized her last soccer chapter as a player last Sunday when Pachuca played Querétaro.
Mazatlán back-to-back wins
After getting back-to-back wins against Juárez and Santos, everybody is in expectation of the next result. By winning its first two games of the season, the club has already done something historical and if Mazatlán can pull another win, that’s going to be huge for them.
The good results they’re getting are also being reflected at an individual level, with goalkeeper Daniela Solera and defender Vanessa Sánchez being chosen as part of Week 2 Best XI.
Club América signs Geyse Ferreira
América showed once again that they mean business by signing Brazilian attacker Geyse Ferreira. The player arrives at the nest after playing for Benfica, Madrid CFF, Barcelona, Manchester United and most recently, Gotham.
It’s not the first time América goes all in, but with Geyse’s signing, they reached a whole new level. Undoubtedly, the attacker’s experience at the international level will come in handy for the club.
A nose broken and questionable refereeing
Only two weeks into the season, one of América’s new signings, Brazilian Isa Haas, suffered an injury and had to leave the field with a broken nose in the game against Tijuana. Despite the foul, the referee didn’t book Tijuana’s Kader Hancer, the player who elbowed Haas. Leaving that aside, the club announced the defender underwent surgery and that there’s no fixed time for her return to the field.
Added to that injury, Scarlett Camberos was sent off after receiving two yellow cards in a game that went out of control, where eight yellow cards were shown.
Lucía García shines in Rayadas’ win
Monterrey didn’t face the toughest of opponents and they did what they were supposed to do against Necaxa.
Christine Burkenroad, Sofía Martínez, and Carol Cázares scored one tally each while Spaniard Lucía García scored a brace, including a screamer.
Despite the big win, there was some bad news since Alice Soto and Fátima Servín had to leave the field, injured.
