The Badgers are losing an offensive lineman to the transfer portal on the final day of the window.
The Wisconsin Badgers have a late transfer portal entry, as offensive lineman Leyton Nelson is entering the transfer portal, he announced.
Nelson, a redshirt junior in 2025, came to Wisconsin with former offensive line coach A.J. Blazek from Vanderbilt before the 2024 season. However, he dealt with a lower-body injury and did not see any game action in 2024.
In 2025, Nelson was slated to be in the two-deep at offensive tackle, and even competed for the starting job in the spring after Kevin Heywood went down with a torn ACL. But he struggled in a small sample, prompting the Badgers to land Davis Heinzen in the spring transfer portal.
Nelson ultimately saw five games of action in 2025, primarily on special teams, and will now head elsewhere for his final year of college football.
Wisconsin has added quite a bit in the transfer portal, landing Ole Miss’s P.J. Wilkins, Florida State’s Lucas Simmons, Arkansas’s Blake Cherry, and Oklahoma State’s Austin Kawecki at offensive line. Prior to Nelson’s departure, the Badgers were already over 15 projected scholarship players at the position for 2026, so they are still in a good spot, depth-wise.
Still, it wouldn’t be a surprise if they look for one more offensive lineman in the transfer portal to round out the room.
