If Arizona is unable to replicate what it did in 2025 when it came to pass defense, it won’t be for a lack of trying. The Wildcats have clearly made restocking the secondary a top priority and they’ve made yet another addition to that group.
The UA has picked up a commitment from former Oregon cornerback Daylen Austin, who has two years of eligibility remaining. He is the sixth defensive back acquired from the NCAA transfer portal and third corner.
The 6-foot-1, 199-pound Austin appeared in 30 games for Oregon from 2023-25, both on defense and special teams. He has 23 tackles in his career, 2.5 for loss, as well as an interception this past season.
Austin was a 4-star prospect in the 2023 recruiting class, and Arizona had offered him a scholarship in June 2021.
Arizona must replace all five starters from a secondary that was among the stingiest in the country against the pass. The Wildcats only allowed more than 200 passing yards three times and finished with 22 interceptions.
Austin joins Tyrese Boss (Wyoming) and Dwight Bootle II (Charlotte) as portal cornerbacks added. Arizona also recently got a commitment from junior college CB Brandon Holmes, and 4-star corner Xaier Hiler was one of the Wildcats’ top signees in the 2026 recruiting class.
He’ll be coming to Tucson despite currently being under indictment for his role in a fatal hit-and-run accident in Eugene, Ore., in April 2024. A trial is scheduled for 2027.
Arizona is up to 21 known commitments from the portal, which closes to new entrants on Friday night.
