AFC Bournemouth are reportedly ready to jump the growing queue for Manchester United target Rayan, with the Cherries holding a key advantage over their Premier League rivals in a red-hot race.

Brazil’s Next Wonderkid

Rayan Vitor Simplício Rocha, or Rayan to his friends, has emerged as one of the hottest prospects in South America, with growing interest from Europe.

Standing 6’1, the Vasco da Gama starlet is capable of playing on the wing or up front, and possesses a potent pairing of speed and strength alongside the samba skill one would expect from a Brazilian wonderkid. He has even drawn lofty comparisons to L’Imperatore, Brazil and Inter Milan’s legendary striker Adriano.

Last season, the 19-year-old scored 20 goals in all competitions while shining on the national stage as well, as he propelled the Seleção to victory in the South American U-20 Championship in February.

Rayan Stats: 2025

The Campeonato Brasileiro Série A, Brazil’s top division, is one of the toughest leagues to play in across the world, and it is a testament to the youngster’s maturity, both on and off the ball, that he is thriving in it despite his age.

Rayan is described as “the great revelation” in Brazilian football in 2025, with the firm expectation that he will follow the path of his compatriot, Estêvão, who joined Chelsea last summer and has since lit up the Premier League.

There are a host of Europe’s biggest clubs in England tracking Rayan, with Tottenham Hotspur joined by AC Milan and Real Madrid in their admiration of the Vasco da Gama winger.

But United are firmly in this mix as the Red Devils search for more options on the wing in the wake of Ruben Amorim’s dismissal, along with his wingerless 3-4-2-1 system, last week.

The 19-year-old has been on the club’s radar for some time, with his contract containing a £68 million release clause – but Bournemouth have now entered the race, with a sales pitch they believe will convince him to rebuff any advances from Old Trafford.

A New Hat in the Ring

As relayed by Sports Witness, Spanish journalist Matteo Moretto reveals Bournemouth are “pushing” to sign Rayan. The report states they are willing to offer a “clearer pathway” to the first team than their rivals – a key consideration for any young player.

The Cherries are currently searching for a replacement for Antoine Semenyo after their talismanic forward joined Manchester City last week in a £62.5m deal, turning down an offer from United in the process.

The Ghana international was a key target at Old Trafford, and the failure to sign him is understood to be a driving factor behind Amorim’s anger with INEOS, which ultimately led to his dismissal.

It’s an interesting twist that Bournemouth are now accelerating a move for Rayan – a forward with an almost identical profile to Semenyo – to replace him, given United’s long-standing interest in both.

Brazilian football expert Thomas Alencar believes the Vitality Stadium is the “right step” for Rayan, as it will offer him the same path that Semenyo took, which helped establish the 26-year-old as one of the Premier League’s leading attackers.

“I think it is the right step for Rayan. Bournemouth usually develop their promising assets very well. Rayan would arrive to be a starter and to get playing time, which he would not have at a much bigger club. One step at a time. That is how it works.”

United will need to develop a strong sales pitch to convince Brazil‘s next superstar to skip the stepping stone on the south coast and instead join the “bigger club” straight away.Featured image Wagner Meier via Getty Images
