Newport County have continued their January strengthening by signing Swindon Town defender Ryan Delaney on loan for the rest of the season.

Delaney, 29, returns to Rodney Parade after leaving for Swindon in June 2024 as the Exiles look to boost their chances of League Two survival.

The former Republic of Ireland Under-21 international made 41 appearances in his previous stint with the Exiles.

He previously captained the club, leading the side in their FA Cup fourth-round defeat to Manchester United two years ago.

Delaney, who is out of contract at Swindon this summer, returns to Newport with the club bottom of the Football League, two points adrift of safety.

He becomes the fourth new signing of the window with manager Christian Fuchs having already secured the loan signings of Harrison Biggins from Shrewsbury and Tanatswa Nyakuhwa from Cardiff, as well as the permanent addition of Penybont striker James Crole.

Meanwhile, having confirmed the end of Manchester United youngster Habeeb Ogunneye's loan spell in Wales, Newport have announced the exits of rookie defenders Morgan Evans - who has signed for Cymru Premier side Llanelli – and Sam Watkins.

Elsewhere, Corey Evans, Jac Norrus, Nelson Sanca and Riley Lonergan have all rejoined Fuchs' squad following the end of their various loans.
