JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. (WJHL) — The women of ETSU basketball will hit the floor again Saturday, still looking for their first win in the SoCon.

The Buccaneers were picked 3rd in the preseason SoCon coaches poll, with returning players Meghan Downing and Carmen Richardson on the pre-season all-conference team.

But after close losses to Furman and Wofford on Saturday, the Bucs are tied for last place with Western Carolina.

Head coach Brenda Mock Brown says she believes in her team, and a change is coming

“When we don’t do well, the first place I look is in the mirror,” she said. “It’s my team. You know, it’s the coaching staff. I chose this team to be here. I believe in this team. I still believe in this team. And we will work tirelessly as we have been doing.”

“You know, we’re trying to figure out solutions, trying to push buttons, and we’ll continue to do it, and we’ll find them, and we will get better, and we will win basketball games. I do believe in this group. And we have to believe in ourselves, you know, it doesn’t matter what the outside believes or says. We’ve got to keep working hard, but we’ve got to be believable. We gotta work hard at being believable. So you’ve got to do the work every day.”

The road gets no easier for the Bucs, because they host perennial power Chattanooga on Saturday at 4 p.m. inside Brooks Gym.
