From Robbie Fowler and Michael Owen, to Mohamed Salah and Sadio Mane, the Anfield faithful have been lucky enough to see some outstanding goalscorers over the last three decades.
Of course, Salah has been a part of two Premier League title-winning teams with the Reds. But not every forward has been so fortunate.
Ludvig Aberg picks between Luis Suarez and Fernando Torres
Two of Liverpool’s best strikers after the turn of the century have just one League Cup win between them to show for their time on Merseyside.
Fernando Torres was exceptional in the early stages of his time with Liverpool. He scored 24 league goals in 33 games during his first season. And he formed a phenomenal partnership with Steven Gerrard.
Torres’ move to Chelsea prompted the Reds to sign Luis Suarez. The Uruguayan did not make a particularly fast start – and certainly did not avoid controversy – but scored 54 league goals across his final two seasons.
Suarez took Liverpool closer to the Premier League title than they had ever been. So perhaps it is no surprise that PGA Tour star and Reds fan Ludvig Aberg opted for him when asked to pick between Suarez and Torres.
“Torres was my first – love is the wrong word – one of my first striker idols. Suarez was a beast. I loved Suarez. He would make you look silly, and he would win you games single-handedly. So I have to go for Suarez,” he told The Smylie Show.
Aberg discusses wearing Liverpool-inspired clothing at The Open Championship this year
Aberg may well get the opportunity to stop by Anfield later this year. The Open Championship takes place at Royal Birkdale, which is a 45-minute drive away from Liverpool.
And the Swede was asked about the prospect of wearing some Liverpool-inspired clothing for the final major championship of the year.
“I haven’t heard anything. Am I open to it? Absolutely. Yeah, that would be cool. I’m not against it, absolutely not,” he responded.
It looks highly unlikely that Liverpool are going to retain their Premier League crown this season. But Aberg certainly has the talent to make sure that he is lifting another significant trophy over the coming months.
