The Athletes Unlimited Softball League announced Utah will be the home market for one of its six teams in 2026 on Tuesday.

Starting this summer, the Utah Talons will call Salt Lake City home and will play their games at the University of Utah’s Dumke Family Stadium.

“Salt Lake City has emerged as a dynamic sports market with a strong youth softball foundation and a growing appetite for women’s professional sports,” AUSL commissioner Kim Ng said in the press release. “The University of Utah provides an exceptional setting for the Talons as we continue expanding the league’s footprint in the Mountain West.”

What to know about the AUSL, Utah Talons

The 2026 season marks the second season of AUSL.

For the inaugural season, the league used a touring model that brought its teams to 12 cities, including Salt Lake City.

Now, games will solely be played in the six teams’ home markets.

In 2026, the Talons are joined by five other teams in the league: the Carolina Blaze, Chicago Bandits, Oklahoma City Spark, Portland Cascade and the Texas Volts.

The Utah Talons — the reigning champions — will begin the 2026 season at home on June 9 and will close their season on the road July 19.

The Talons will play 12 home games this summer at Dumke Family Stadium. The team has the full support of University of Utah head softball coach Amy Hogue, she said in the release.

“I’m not sure you can find a single person more excited than I am about AUSL coming to Salt Lake City. Under the leadership of Commissioner Kim Ng, Athletes Unlimited has continued to raise the standard and has become the premier professional league in our sport,” Hogue said. “The elite talent of AUSL paired with the great State of Utah will be a home run combination. I’m 100% behind this league and will do everything I can to help it thrive here for years to come.”

Season ticket sign ups began Tuesday morning as well as purchasing of group tickets. Single game tickets will be available in the future, per the team.

Utah Talons roster features local tie

The Utah Talons will be led by general manager Lisa Fernandez and head coach Howard Dobson, who coached the team in 2025.

One of the players on the Talons’ roster is former Ute infielder and two-time Pac-12 Softball Player of the Year Hannah Flippen.

“I know there was a lot of competition for which cities to pick, but I really think that we nailed it,” Flippen told The Athletic. “They’re all so special in their own ways, and they all showed up for pro softball this summer. It’s going to be so special.”
