MMM Reacts Survey Results: Davidson women picked to Atlantic 10

The Wildcats received 60% of the votes, followed by Richmond

The Atlantic 10 has been the best mid-major women’s basketball conference with three of the top six and five of the top 11 in this week’s Other Top 25.

That led us to ask the question: who do you think will come out on top this season in the A10? The answer: the Davidson Wildcats with 60% of the vote. Richmond was second with 20%.

The Wildcats are 12-6 this season and 4-1 in conference. They suffered their first defeat in the league on Saturday – a 91-84 triple-overtime loss at Richmond.

Davidson ranks 50th in BartTorvik and 53rd in the NET. Despite being 0-5 in the first two quadrants, Gayle Fulks’ team is 12-1 in Quads 3 and 4.

The Wildcats have the third best scoring defense in the A10 and allow 59.1 points per game. They sit 42nd nationally in adjusted defensive efficiency, according to Torvik. They shoot it from deep at an efficient 36.4%, one percentage point behind Richmond for tops in the league. That clip is good for 27th nationally. They’re also third in the A10 in assist at 14.3 a game.

Charlise Dunn is one of two players to rank in the top seven in the A10 in scoring (seventh at 15.7 points per game), rebounding (fourth at 8.2 rebounds per game) and steals (sixth at 2.1 steals per game).

Katie Donovan is a sharpshooter for the Wildcats. She averages 11.9 points a night and leads the league by draining 48.7% from deep, which is fourth best in DI. Ines Garcia Monje is the floor general for the offense and sits second in the A10 in assist-to-turnover ratio (1.6).

Balance is one of the keys to this Davidson team as seven players average at least five points per game.

The ’Cats reached the A10 semifinals and participated in the WBI last season. They had their best finish since joining the conference by finishing third and going 13-5. Davidson has increased its conference win total in the league each of the last four seasons.
