Marcus Rashford: Barcelona’s transfer plot to leverage Man United

FC Barcelona are planning to leverage Manchester United by re-negotiating the terms of the deal for Marcus Rashford, as the Spanish giants know INEOS are desperate to sell the forward, according to an explosive new update.

Ripping up the deal

Rashford, 28, was frozen out of Old Trafford by Manchester United head coach Ruben Amorim, who faced his own unceremonious exit last week after being dismissed as head coach.

However, the England international has found a new lease of life since joining the Blaugrana on a season-long loan in the summer.

Seven goals and 11 assists in 27 appearances constitute a strong return for a debut campaign in a new country, with Barcelona boss Hansi Flick extremely happy with the loanee.

Barcelona are providing full coverage of Rashford’s salary with United – the most expensive at the club at £325,000 a week – and included a buy-option worth £26 million in the deal.

However, the La Liga champions are prepared to rip up the terms of this arrangement, safe in the knowledge Rashford has his heart set on remaining in Catalonia past this summer.

By contrast, United will not welcome the academy graduate back to his boyhood club, even with the departure of Amorim.

INEOS are understood to have been as strong advocates as the Portuguese coach for Rashford’s exclusion, though the hierarchy were undoubtedly more focused on his effect on the club’s wage bill than anything he was, or was not, doing at Carrington.

Barcelona are acutely aware of this dynamic, with United caught between a rock and a hard place over Rashford this summer. The club have ruled he cannot return to Old Trafford, nor does he have any desire to play anywhere other than the Camp Nou.

Another loan deal

Ben Jacobs reveals the two clubs “held a meeting” recently to “explore options” over Rashford sealing a permanent switch to Spain.

"

Tweet: “Exclusive: Barcelona held a meeting this month with #MUFC to explore options for signing Marcus Rashford permanently.

Barcelona prefer not to trigger the €30m buy option and instead sounded out #MUFC over a lower number and also floated the idea of a second loan with a conditional obligation.

Rashford intent on staying at the Camp Nou and Barcelona want to keep him. Further talks expected closer to the end of the season to try and reach an agreement.”

The talkSPORT reporter reveals Barcelona “sounded out” the prospect of a reduced fee from the £26m agreement, while also proposing the “idea of a second loan with a conditional obligation.”

Jacobs confirms Rashford is “intent on staying at the Camp Nou and Barcelona want to keep him” – they are just not willing to stick to their commitment to do so.Featured image Alex Caparros via Getty Images
