La Liga president talks Barcelona fair play situation, Lamine, Raphinha: ‘He’s made the difference’

Javier Tebas recently delivered an address at the Europa Press breakfast, where he notably talked about Barcelona’s fair play situation.

The La Liga president, who has been quite appreciative of Barcelona in recent times, also talked about how Raphinha is underrated.

He offered insights about other matters related to Barcelona as well, including the game in Miami against Villarreal, which was cancelled.

Javier Tebas on Barcelona’s fair play situation

First and foremost, Tebas talked about Barcelona’s financial health, amid reports that the club are confident about returning to the 1:1 rule.

While admitting that he is up to date with the matters, the La Liga president lauded Barcelona for managing to win titles despite not being in the 1:1 rule.

“Barcelona are subject to financial fair play, and this leads them to have an increasingly compliant spending policy. Being able to inaugurate the stadium is very important.

“Even without being subject to the famous 1:1 rule, they win league titles. Their coffers are fuller. If they comply with La Liga’s regulations, I’m not worried,” he said (h/t Mundo Deportivo).

Tebas offered optimism about Barcelona, especially when they return to the 1:1 rule.

“They signed players even though they weren’t subject to the 1:1 rule. What I’m most optimistic about is that they’re going to have more revenue,” he stated.

“Part of that stadium revenue has already been taken into account. If you’re under construction, you’re allowed to maintain your ticket revenue for a period of time to support, rather than penalise, the stadium renovations,” he added.

Javier Tebas on Raphinha, Miami game

Tebas went on to talk about Raphinha and how he is not rated highly enough by the footballing media.

“The other day, I read an article that said he’s the lowest-rated player, and I agree. In many matches, he’s made the difference, along with Lamine Yamal, but especially Raphinha,” he said.

Finally, Tebas voiced his continued support for the Barcelona-Villarreal match that was proposed to the played in Miami, United States at the end of 2025.

The La Liga president claimed he will continue to support the project.

“Of course, whenever they want. Where’s the bias? Villarreal wanted to go, the fans wanted to travel,” he concluded.
